Spray Polyurethane Foam Roofing Is?
For over 50 years, Spray Polyurethane Foam Roofing has been used as a roofing and insulating material. Some foam roofs have been in place for decades, and can be expected to last decades more as long as they are maintained. Some of our clients are still maintaining SPF Roofs that are a little over 30 years old.
A SPF Roof is a 2 Layer System
- The bottom layer is the polyurethane foam.
- the top layer is a coating of rubber, silicone or acrylic coating with embedded reflective granules to protect against the sun’s UV rays, and it also strengthens the surface against damage from various sources.
How is a SPF Roof Installed
The original roof does not need to be torn off rather it can be cleaned off and loose debris removed then the foam can be applied.
A special sprayer combines 2 liquids as it's sprayed onto the original roof. The combination produces an expanding foam that will seal holes, gaps and seams as it's sprayed. The roofer will continue to spray foam in a covering pattern till foam covers the entire roof. The foam will harden within a day to a solid waterproof surface. The SPF roof will expand and contract with the building as it heats and cools reducing stress fractures. Warning- Proper training and is needed in the installation process because novice users generally leave ridges and valleys in the foam during application. Chesterfield VA Roofing SPF technicians has to pass several hands-on tests before they are allowed to install SPF roofs.

SPF Roofs Waterproofing Ability
During a SPF application, a slight slope can be added to the roofs surface to guard against ponding water. Foam roofing does not require flashing because it creates a watertight seal around roof openings (vents, pipes, and cables).
SPF roof does not degrade or compact as it ages (never losing its insulating properties) when protected from the sun's UV radiation with a flexible sprayed on top coat. This makes an excellent, long term, low maintenance and superior insulated roof system.
